Musicians

The Memphis Blazers featured some of the best musicians and vocalists in the Memphis area while they rocked the Memphis and Mid-South region from 1961-68 and 1974-75. The band provided a driving Memphis soul sound for thousands of party goers at dances throughout Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The music of The Memphis Blazers covered most major soul artists from James Brown, to Motown, to Memphis Stax, plus their own original songs. Now, their tapes have been recovered from the vault, and a new CD, Rockin Rhythm Revue has been released.

Today, the music of The Memphis Blazers is still in demand. The band has re-united and, once again, features some of the very best Memphis musicians. The original vocalists have added the excellent harmonies of Connie Wilson Manuel and Nancy Grear Mitchell. The rhythm section is still led by the great Memphis lead guitarist, Bobby Manuel along with John DeWitt from the Cadillac Daddy band based in San Francisco. The Memphis Blazers now feature Memphis Grammy® executive Jon Hornyak on keyboards, the Memphis Music Premier Player award winner Dave Smith on bass, and the New Memphis Horns–Jim Spake on sax and Scott Thompson on trumpet. On drums, Steve Potts, anchors the rhythm section. Steve Potts also performs worldwide with Booker T. and the M.G.’s, Wynonna Judd, and the Blues Brothers Band.
